Serving Victims with Disabilities

This course, Serving Victims with Disabilities, is an introduction to providing victim-centered services to sexual violence victims with disabilities. It provides an overview of relevant federal and state disability laws as well as state laws pertaining to guardianship and conservatorship that could impact serving victims with disabilities. It explores the use of person first language, tips for communicating with persons with disabilities and accommodations that victims with disabilities may require. It also examines ways to assist victims with mental illnesses, and the importance of encouraging individuals with disabilities to build their self-advocacy skills.
